This show garden was sponsored by the Scottish Agricultural College. The garden was themed upon higher learning, more specifically the seven liberal arts.
Each feature within the garden represents one of these arts:
- Grammar
- Rhetoric
- Logic
- Arithmetic
- Geometry
- Music and Astronomy
The sculpture representing music was based on a classical lyre shape and also acts as a wind chime. The astronomy sculpture was inspired by the movement of the planets. The lush green planting with occasional spots of colour provides a good enclosure to the space.
This garden shows that simplicity in a confined space is the key to creating a garden that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional.
